How I built a telemedicine service for patients from an independent mvp app to becoming part of the larger Doctoralia ecosystem and boosted number of new leads for our customers. Find the outcomes at the bottom.

Context

When the pandemic hit, it completely transformed the landscape of healthcare. Accessing specialists became challenging, and telemedicine emerged as the primary mode of consultation. Recognizing the potential in these shifts, we decided to delve deeper. Before diving into developing a solution, we prioritized understanding our potential users. Alongside market and user research, we conducted smoke tests across three different markets.

I crafted landing pages with a unique approach: users were prompted to go through the order flow, selecting payment methods and proceeding to payment. However, before finalizing the transaction, we intervened to explain that it was just a test. The results indicated significant interest from patients for such services, leading us to commit to building an MVP.

Taking charge of designing the entire mobile app for iOS and Android, I focused on providing a chat service with general practitioners. To streamline the process, we opted for a third-party solution for GPs side rather than developing a specialized tool. Initially, we offered the app for free to gather insights into patient needs and optimize doctor workflows, leveraging eg. AI tools.

After this initial phase, which was a success, we transitioned towards building the final solution. I led the design efforts for the solution within the existing Doctoralia Patient App, also crafting an official landing page and pricing strategy as we shifted our focus towards monetization. By aligning our vision with patient needs, jobs, and pains, we introduced new services aimed at enhancing the overall healthcare experience.

Outcome

Over the subsequent months, we dedicated ourselves to experimenting with various acquisition and engagement strategies. The number of subscribers who remained with us for more than one billing cycle steadily increased, accompanied by positive reviews indicating patient satisfaction. We also discovered that Docplanner Care is a great channel to generate leads for our main clients. 20% of chats resulted in patients being directed to the marketplace, with up to 30% of these interactions culminating in direct bookings. This performance surpassed that of any other engagement campaign we had implemented for app users, achieving results up to 10 times better.
